All answers are chat (MiniMessage / Adventure). There is no chest GUI. /causechain is aliased as /cc.

/why

Players use this after a death, a deny, or to inspect a captured chain in their land. Staff use the same command for global inspect. Players without causechain.why cannot run player, entity, or chain. Console cannot run player /why death/deny; use /cc why below.

/chain

<id> is a display id from /why (copy with staff [Copy ID]). Missing ids reply with no causal record.

/cc (alias of /causechain)

Root permission for status/help is causechain.status (default op). Subcommands have their own nodes. World traces are disabled from console (World traces are disabled from console.). Visuals honor visuals.enabled and visuals.particles in Configuration.

Console /cc why

Operators and scripts without a player: These require causechain.why. World names are the server’s world name, not minecraft:overworld.

Chat actions on /why

When you run /why in-game, clickable bits can include:
  • [Share] — copy a Discord-ready trace (players and staff)
  • [Trace] [Chain] [Evidence] [Copy ID] — staff only
See Permissions for the full node list.
